Drug-free, Surgery-free, Pain-free Relief for Your Companion
Town & Country Veterinary Hospital is pleased to offer Class IV Therapeutic Laser therapy, available to help your pet heal and be relieved from pain. As our best friends age, recover from trauma, or simply need relief from everyday aches and pains this technology promotes healing, and facilitates functional recovery. Pets benefit from reduced inflammation and pain, and show an increased range of motion and mobility earlier in the recovery process. This technology has been embraced by veterinarians, chiropractors, animal and human physical therapists, athletic trainers, and physicians specializing in sports medicine - so chances are good that your pet may be treated with the same laser technology used by your favorite professional sports team.
Therapeutic laser therapy is used to treat multiple ailments and injuries in dogs and cats.
Treatable conditions include:
Ligament or tendon injuries
Muscle sprains or strains
Skin lesions or abrasions
What does the therapeutic laser do?
Class IV laser uses a beam of light to stimulate damaged cells to produce more energy. The overall cellular function is increased, allowing for rapid absorption of nutrients, elimination of wastes, and reproduction of new cells. This increased cellular activity aids in:
Alleviating chronic or acute pain
Speeding up healing and recovery
Release of endorphin, the body's natural pain reliever
What are the treatments like?
After your veterinarian has prescribed a treatment regimen, treatments are performed by a Registered Veterinary Technician. You are welcome to remain with your pet during treatments. The laser is applied directly to the surface of the skin or held just above the skin if direct contact is too painful. The laser light creates a gentle warming sensation on the skin and underlying tissues that your pet might find very soothing. Most conditions are treated with multiple administrations within the first one to two weeks. After the initial set, treatments are spread progressively further apart until the maintenance level needed by your pet is reached.
Are there any risks involved?
There are no known side effects from the administration of therapeutic laser therapy. Technicians administering treatment and owners present during therapy must wear protective eye wear.
